I worked at CSIRO for 7 years after completing my PhD in Optical Fibre Theory at the University of Sydney in 1994. I worked at JDS Uniphase for about a year (June 2001 to April 2002) and led the development of new optical fibres for writing Fibre Bragg Gratings.

Well the JDSU job didn't last long due to the major downturn in the communications industry. The Sydney operation has gone from 300 to 100 in a little over six months and unfortunately I was made redundant on 19 April 2002.
I
worked at Zone APS from
mid-2002 to
mid-2005 and led the initial development of the system now known as
Arbitor.
I joined National ICT Australia in October 2005 as Systems Engineering Manager of the Smart Transport and Roads (STaR) and was appointed Technology Director: Infrastructure, Transport and Logistics in January 2010.
In August 2015 I joined the Australian Road Research Board as a Principal Engineer. I am an Adjunct Associate Professor in the School of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of NSW.
I am co-author of Transportation and Information: Trends in Technology and Policy and on the editorial board of GeoInformatica. I am also a member of the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council Review College.
When I was graduate student I wrote a document on FORTRAN/C mixed language programming. It still gets cited! Here is a link.
I also used to teach a course in Web Design so I guess I should have a better web page. I just can't find the time...
Nicole and I were married on 27 April 1996 and honeymooned in Tasmania. We arrived on the day of the Port Arthur Massacre and very nearly travelled to Port Arthur on that day. We would have arrived just as the incident occurred. Both of us would like to extend our deepest sympathy to everyone affected by the tragic events of Sunday 28 April 1996.
Nicole comes from Mauritius a small island in the Western Indian Ocean. Nicole and I have been to Mauritius in 2000 and in December 2004. Some photos are on page 2. Nicole is a fluent French speaker.
Our daughter. Celine Annabelle, was born 19 August 1998.
