Monument to The Battle of Grand-Port

The Battle of Grand-Port was fought in 1810. Its unique place in history lies in it being the only Napoleonic era naval battle that was won by the French.. However, the British won the overall battle and took the Mascarenes (Mauritius, Rodrigues and La Reunion) from the French. La Reunion was returned to France after the Battle of Waterloo in 1815. An interesting dramatisation of the naval action may be found in the Patrick O'Brien novel The Mauritius Command.
